NL Central Musings

By: Dustin

This isn't meant to be terribly in-depth...although maybe if you're lucky I will elaborate later on.

Anyway, I just want to make sure all you silly Cubs and Cardinals fans realize that Cincinnati will repeat as division champs this year. If the Reds don't win it, the Brewers will. Book that shit. St. Louis finishes no better than third, and the Cubs will only finish higher than the Pirates. It's going to be a long, long season for you folks. Have fun.

Did you forget about Houston?

Did I forget that Houston plays in the NL Central? Of course not, although the Astros will be about as forgettable as St. Louis or Chicago in terms of impact on the playoff picture . . . and since our anonymous commenter appears to need things spelled out for him, I mean their impact will be negligible at best.

And speaking of spelling things out for folks, I'll type out my prediction to save you from having to think critically for eight seconds: Houston will finish fourth — ahead of Chicago, behind St. Louis.

But did yoo forget that Wainwright is hurt? and I definetly don't think that the Astros will do that well. Who is their pitchers? Wandy and... I think it goes Reds, Brewers, Cubs, Cards, Pirates, Astros. I don't like the Astros. They have crummy playeers

Rick,

I know Wainwright is gone. I also know that Carpenter has a minor hamstring injury and Mitchell Boggs left the same spring training game with a lower back strain. I also know Nick Punto is going to miss two or three months with a hernia. I didn't think St. Louis would win the NL Central before all these injuries, but these injuries (especially Wainwright's) are why I don't see them finishing ahead of Milwaukee, either.

I think you're wrong about the Cubs finishing ahead of St. Louis, although it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility if Zambrano bounces back and the Soriano/Pena duo puts up the power numbers it has posted in better seasons.

I think you're wronger about Houston being the worst team in the division. You say Houston has crummy players . . . have you seen Pittsburgh's pitching staff? There is no fucking way that team finishes ahead of anybody in the division. The Pirates will need to average six runs a game just to finish .500. You know that isn't happening.

I don't think I gave Houston that much credit, anyway. I picked them fourth in a really weak division. Honestly, the last four spots in this division could go a lot of ways and the bottom line would still be that all four teams were bad.
